- Information abour Scholarships and Study Aids
Welcome Ceremony, where the aim is to add more additional and complementary information to that already shown in the diffusion and guidance processes before the registration. In addition, it will be to show the guidance process and mentoring listed below.
Guidance process. CAMIA will assign, to each enrolled student, a supervisor among the teaching and research staff of the MSc, for the entire period in which the student remains enrolled. The list of assigned supervisors to each enrolled student will be prepared once the registration process is closed, and it will be made available for consultation via the dissemination channels that the MSc organisation has at their disposal.
The supervisor and the student will hold a preliminary meeting within 10 days of the start of the academic year, in order to discuss and clarify issues related to academic guidance and management. In this meeting, the supervisor and the student will set deadlines for the regular meetings, in which the supervisor can answer the student's queries, advise on necessary matters, and support the student in the development of their academic activity. The student will also have available the supervisor’s e-mail account in case it is necessary to discuss any ongoing queries.
Therefore, the assigned supervisor will advise the student on matters that will be useful to the student, in order that when registering the Master’s Final Project, they have a broad and adequate perspective on the academic approach to the project. The Internal Quality Assurance System (see Chapter 9) includes, among its processes, "Orientation and student support actions" (PR/CL/002), which includes, as an adaptation to the concrete reality of the proposed curriculum, this section.
Mentoring. The CAMIA will assign a “mentor” to each enrolled student. Mentors are students that are in a research period of a PhD in Artificial Intelligence at the School of Computer Science. The mentor has the task of facilitating guidance within the academic, social, and administrative issues that a new student may have.
The process of the Internal Quality Assurance System of the School of Computer Science, under which this is included, has a process "Orientation and student support actions" (PR/CL/002). The academic development of the course, and the specific supervisor and mentor guidance, must allow the student to gradually obtain a broad and adequate vision of the research activity in order to, once modules and seminars of the Master are studied, have a sound grounding upon which to decide about the subject matter of his Master’s Final Project. For those students who do not wish to continue with their studies – and since the Master’s Degree gives access to professional activity –, the School of Computer Science of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid has a Career Guidance Centre which provides guidance and information support to students who wish to be incorporated into employment once studies are finished.
